Polarised lenses

Comfortable vision without irritating reflections

Sound familiar? Unpleasant reflections and mirroring effects while driving or doing sports. Many water sports enthusiasts swear by polarising sunglass lenses. They prevent reflections and mirroring effects caused by sunlight on a wet road, water or metallic surfaces. Clearer, more comfortable vision in sunshine means that your eyes get tired less quickly as they do not need to constantly adapt to changing light.

  • Polarising lenses: who for?

Just the thing for sunny days

Water sports enthusiasts swear by sunglasses with polarising filters. For them, it is vital to minimise the reflections and mirroring effects on the surface of the water and hence reduce irritating glare. Winter sports fans can read the slope more easily and reliably.

However, polarising sunglass lenses may also be just the thing you're looking for to enjoy more comfortable vision in everyday life, e.g. for driving, sports or everyday situations when you are confronted by strong sunshine.

Lenses with an integrated polarising filter may be the perfect solution for people who are sensitive to glare.

  • Technology

    But what exactly is polarisation?

Natural light vibrates or "oscillates" in all directions. It is therefore classified as "unpolarised." If a ray of light hits a smooth surface, e.g. a wet road, the light is partly reflected by the water and directed in a different direction. In other words, it is polarised. Most of this light (depending on the angle of incidence and the surface) is polarised perpendicularly.

This results in a reflection and the eye experiences an irritating glare. The polarising filter is orientated horizontally and ensures that the reflected, perpendicularly polarised light is not transmitted. This virtually eliminates the unpleasant reflections off the surface of the water, wet roads or snow.
