    The ZEISS spherical single vision lens design is an exactly computed point focal lens design in which peripheral blur is minimised.
    The foundations for this design where laid already by Moritz von Rohr - a ZEISS scientist - in 1908. He calculated the very first spherical single vision lens that also was optimised for larger viewing angles.

    In the past few years intensive research and development work has resulted in plastic lenses with higher refractive indices. This means that patients with high prescriptions can now also enjoy the benefits of a cosmetically attractive, lightweight lens. In 1991, ZEISS extended the range of products by the high index, plastic lens ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.6. With its excellent wearing comfort and many cosmetic benefits, ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.6 is now our standard plastic lens.
    ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.6 is particularly recommended for low to high myopia and for low hyperopia. Thanks to its high refractive index, ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.6 is thinner and lighter than a ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.5 lens with the same dioptric power. It is up to 40% lighter than ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.6 with the same dioptric power.

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.5

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.5 was the first lens made of the plastic material CR 39 to be included in the ZEISS product range. Today, it is our classic lightweight plastic lens. The possibility of tinting the surface of plastic lenses provides wearers of single vision lenses with a wide range of single colour, bicolour or graduated tints. In combination with the OPTIMA thickness reduction system and optimised diameters, the above benefits provide outstanding wearing comfort.
    Thanks to their low density, ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.5 lenses are up to 40% lighter than ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.5 lenses of the same power.

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.9

    The high index lenses ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.9 have been available from ZEISS since 1995. In the correction of high myopia, ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.9 lenses allow a reduction in edge thickness, the like of which the inventors of Punktal never even dreamed of. The extremely high refractive index of 1.893 is achieved by the addition of lanthanum and niobium to the glass melt.
    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.8 and ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.9 lenses are particularly suitable for patients with high myopia. These wearers demand the very best of their spectacles as

    • they have been wearing spectacles since their early youth
    • they are dependent on their spectacles the whole day long and
    • they have a lot of experience with spectacles.

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.8

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.8, the high index lens for high myopia, has been available from ZEISS since 1989. Thanks to its high refractive index of 1.800, it is extremely thin compared to ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.6 or ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.7 and is therefore strongly recommended from the cosmetic viewpoint. The inevitable power rings in lenses with high minus powers are considerably reduced, making the wearer’s eyes look more natural.
    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.8 lenses are up to 40% thinner than ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.5.

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.7

    In the 1970s, ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.7 represented a real revolution for patients with higher prescriptions: for example, a ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.7 lens with sph +4.00 D is about 25% thinner than a ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.5 lens with the same power. Today, ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.7 lenses continue to be a first-class choice for a wide range of powers.
    The higher refractive index of ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.7 also markedly reduces the edge thickness of minus lenses. A ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.7 lens with -4.00 D is around 20% thinner than a ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.5 lens – a considerable cosmetic benefit.

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.6

    Its higher refractive index (n = 1.604) makes ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.6 thinner and lighter than ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.5 in both the plus and minus ranges.
    Both benefits – increased wearing comfort and an improved appearance – have made ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.6 the standard glass lens for low to medium prescriptions.
    With a refractive index of 1.6, the ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.6 lens is recommended for low and medium prescriptions.

    ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.5

    The launch of ZEISS Punktal in 1912 dramatically improved the quality of spectacle lenses. At that time, the mathematical computation of lens design was just as unknown as high volume lens production. Punktal lenses made spectacle wearers aware for the first time how important it was to have high quality lenses for good vision.
    With a refractive index of 1.5, the ZEISS Single Vision Sph Glass 1.5 lens is recommended for prescriptions from sph -3.00 D to sph +2.00 D
