"Slumdog Millionaire"
On 22 February the world’s most coveted movie prize was awarded in Hollywood for the 81st time. With an amazing eight Oscars, the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" by Danny Boyle was this year's big winner at the Academy Award ceremony. Carl Zeiss equipped the cine cameras used to film the movie with first-class lenses. “Slumdog Millionaire" also received an award in the “Achievement in Cinematography“ category.
For “Slumdog Millionaire”, inventors at Carl Zeiss came up with something really unique: modified cine lenses optimized the filming of the movie in the Indian city of Mumbai, earning it no fewer than ten nominations for the Academy Awards.
The special feature of this new high-resolutioin 2K camera is the removable camera head which can be separately operated from the recording unit, in this case a powerful laptop. The camera head, lens and the required accessories together provide a very small and relatively light camera unit, with which totally new perspectives and viewing angles can be captured in excellent movie quality.
This made it possible to develop a totally new visual language in the movie. The combination of the SI-2K camera with fast, compact ZEISS lenses made it possible to produce a high-quality tool for new, creative images.
